Reconnect Kinship & Culture

The LAD program is designed for schools to promote Language Art and Dance, with a professional delivery that is designed to be taught in a span of 8-10 weeks to reconnect kinship and culture through language, song and dance. It has been developed to ensure a cultural connection remains with students. Gumaraa’s educators will deliver the program at your schools location.

Our LAD Program is available for all ages – we tailor each program to be age appropriate.

Pre-school/Infants: 10 weeks, 2 hours a week

Primary/Secondary School: 8 weeks, 5 hours a week

What will you learn?

Language

  • Body Parts taught through language (in song)

  • Key words – e.g. Greetings, family members, etc.

  • Younger children – songs taught (e.g. heads, shoulders, knees and toes)

  • Teach children an introduction – e.g. “Hello, I am …. From the …. peoples.”

Art

  • Meaning of Symbols

  • Create your own piece of art on canvas

  • Artwork significance and meaning

  • Stencils available for younger children

Dance

  • Learn traditional Aboriginal dance

  • Interactive Dance

  • Ochre
